During the International Symposium on Energy Analytics (ISEA2025, 3-4 March 2025) hosted by Tao Hong at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 🇺🇸, Rafał Weron delivered 4 hours of lectures on Electricity Price Forecasting as part of the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS). The DLS is a recent initiative of the IIF which brings together eminent researchers to share their insights on state-of-the-art and future directions in forecasting. The 2023/2024 edition featured lectures on Forecast Reconciliation by Rob Hyndman of Monash University in Melbourne 🇦🇺.
The recorded lectures 🎦 will be made available on the IIF YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@IIForecasters), initially to IIF members and later to the general public. Rafał’s slides (hyperlinked PDFs) and the accompanying Julia/Python notebooks prepared (and explained at ISEA2025) by Arkadiusz Lipiecki are available here: https://p.wz.pwr.edu.pl/~weron.rafal/Conf/IIF24.
Interestingly, it took Arkadiusz and Rafał 3 days, 9 hours and 40 minutes 🙄 to reach Charlotte. A Departmental record! First, the Munich Airport 🇩🇪 went on strike, causing a 48-hour delay in their departure from Wroclaw 🇵🇱. Their tickets were rebooked with an extra stop at Dulles Intl Airport 🇺🇸. Guess what? The ✈️ from Germany was late due to strong winds along the East Coast and the stopover turned out to be a night tour of Washington DC 🙃 … in freezing cold weather 🥶.
